Butuan in Wikipedia

Wikipedia is considered as one of the best sources of information in the web. It is maintained by volunteers. The contents are contributed by the public. Though Wikipedia has its own problem but many still considered it as one of the best references in any subjects.

Caraga has a fair share of information in the Wikipedia. For researchers or anybody who want to know about Caraga, Wikipedia is the site. But this is not true for Butuan. The information about the City is insufficient. There are even entries that are misleading.

Butuan is known to be the coolest place in south east asia

A cruise along the river barangays reveals much about Butuan’s history, culture, arts, and people, and as a tribute to the Patroness of the Agusan River Senora Sta. Ana, the Abayan Festival was born – a day-long celebration of baroto races and fluvial procession at the Agusan River.

I think it’s high time for Butuanons to do his/her share of enriching the city’s information. For people in the City Tourism office, Wikipedia is the best place to share information. The cost is minimal compared to the hundred thousand of promo materials that you keep on proposing.

What may be impossible yesterday, is a reality of today. Just like Butuan- there is always a bright possibility ahead. After all where else can Butuan move except up.

Butuan Forum Bored

Yes, Virginia, Butuan City has an official forum board. This link will bring you there. Please take note- OFFICIAL. It has a gov.ph domain. We assumed that there are City employees (probably, IT Department or whatever) maintaining this forum. These employees are certainly paid from taxpayers money.

At first glance, one would be happy to know that there is such kind of facility for an ordinary citizen to discuss or give feedback to its government. The forum is a venue where a citizen can exercise his basic freedom of expression. This is indeed an excellent service by any government can provide.

While scanning the forum board, you’ll be happy to know that it seems there is an on going lively discussion. Just by seeing the number of pages that are available for viewing, one would conclude that the forum board served its purpose. In fact, the whole front page has full of discussions. Until, you closely examine it.

The site is full of spam and garbage (just like the City). It has been there for months. The maintainer did not give a damn cleaning or upgrading the system to prevent more spam. It is the filthiest place to visit where porn, buying viagra or seeing Paris Hilton or Britney Spears in nude can be found.

Do you think the people in the City Hall did not notice this? I doubt. They are just too lazy or just don’t give a damn. Holy cow! This is where my hard earned money goes?

KITA as in Income?

For sure this was not a campaign poster. The year has just started. This was part of the give away calendar of the City- maybe to remind the public that the Office still exists. Well, below the calendar were pictures of the various projects that the City has done. Many were not quite sure if these were accomplishments of the previous year or just another recycled projects- those projects that were handed down from generation to generation.

What caught attention was the banner- Ako, Ikaw, Kita: Kalambuan. For a Bisayan speaking, reading the lines was straight forward. But my Chinese friend has a different thing in mind. Even my Ilocano neighbor has. Both pronounced the word KITA with an accent in TA giving a different meaning. They confirmed that the City is only after their INCOME because the poster said so. We can’t blame them.

What I worry most? Those in the City Hall that robs my hard earned KITA.
