At the back of the City Hall, this sign was hanged. What does it mean? Only authorize personnel are allowed to smoke? Holy, Piguk! Maybe I just miss something.

Happy Women’s Day!

Today marks the celebration of Women’s Day. Butuan has it’s own share of the great event. Happy Women’s Day!

Even though they make up half the population, women and girls have endured discrimination in most societies for thousands of years. In the past, women were treated as property of their husbands or fathers – they couldn’t own land, they couldn’t vote or go to school, and were subject to beatings and abuse and could do nothing about it. Over the last hundred years, much progress has been made to gain equal rights for women around the world, but many still live without the rights to which all people are entitled. — Robert Alan

Holy Criminality

Oil and water won’ t mix. Maybe the same through with holiness and criminality. Not in Butuan. Possibility happens here. Nothing is impossible in Butuan.

Take a look at Barangay Holy Redeemer. It’s just few blocks away from the city hall. The place is best known for it’s church- the Mother of Perpetual Church. The solemn and the most holy place of worship is in the midst of the barangay. When one hears the words- Holy Redeemer even if he’s not from Butuan, first thing that comes in his mind is the place’s holiness. But behind this solemnity and tranquility, criminality in this place is rampant. Philippine National Police (PNP) records show that Holy Redeemer has the highest criminality. Barangays Ong Yiu and Tandag Sora come only next. These places are PNP’s priority to implement its customize anti-criminality action campaign.

Holy Redeemer residents insist that their place is safe. My baker friend agreed. He said, “in Holy Redeemer you can rest in peace”.

Beauty never comes late

For the past 30 min. I was browsing the web looking for materials about Butuan. Not much has been written about my beloved city. There were bloggers like me who write but only did it occasionally. Usually these write-ups were journals and diaries of their visit. I don’t believe there’s nothing worth writing about Butuan. Butuan is an interesting place- full of history and a lot of friendly people. However, there were a number of superb photo blogs in the web. Many of these collections are found in flicker.com. Just type butuan in the search space and click. Of the images I found what interest me were the photo collections of beautiful ladies. The above photo is one of those. Though it was taken during the 2008 Ms. Bikini Contest but I believe posting it here is not late. Beauty never comes late. It will never die.
